Suzi Shoemaker, Owner/General Manager
Suzi grew up riding and showing horses in upstate New York, graduating with a degree in Agriculture from Cornell University in 1978, and starting Lantern Hill Farm on seven leased acres later that year. Suzi has been an officer or board member of the Kentucky Thoroughbred Farm Managers’ Club, Thoroughbred Club of America, Central Kentucky Riding for Hope, and Blue Grass Farms Chaplaincy. Married to John Johnson, she enjoys golf, live music and trail riding.

 

Rachel Holden, Farm Manager
Raised in Tanworth-in-Arden, England, Rachel completed her degree in Thoroughbred Equine Management at Witney College in 1990. After stints at home with Northmore Stud, Colin Stud and Ted Voute Sales, she came to America in 1996 to join the staff of Rood + Riddle Equine Hospital, assisting Scott Pierce DVM there until 1999. She has been at Lantern Hill since 2000.

Bart Barber, DVM, Farm Veterinarian
Rood + Riddle Equine Hospital Ambulatory
Bart was born on a cattle ranch in Ririe, Idaho and gained some rather unique horse experience by driving Quarter Horse racing chariots. He completed his DVM at Washington State University in 1998, interning at Rood + Riddle from 1998 to 1999. Bart’s primary focus is reproduction, primary and preventive care, and sales. He joined Lantern Hill in 2000.

David Hall, Farm Farrier
Hall Farrier Services
A native of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, David is a second generation farrier who began shoeing horses in 1979, when he graduated from the Oklahoma Horse Shoeing School. After teaching Farrier Science there for two years after his graduation, David moved to Kentucky and has worked with Bobby Langley, Tex Cauthen and Steve Simon. He’s been keeping hooves in shape for us since 2000.

 

Rebecca Hoy, Intern
Australian Rebecca Hoy joins Lantern Hill Farm through the Communicating for Agriculture Program’s Equine Division. She was born and raised on her family’s beef cattle farm in Failford, New South Wales, and has 8 years experience working with quarter and paint horses. Rebecca worked as Head Nurse at Forster Veterinary Hospital, earned an Equine Nursing Certificate , and most recently worked at the resident mare hospital of Coolmore Australia. We are excited to have Rebecca join our team as she furthers her education in global thoroughbred farm management, breeding and sales.
