Flossie Gets Bossy: First Start Winner at Churchill Downs

FLOSSIE (f, 3, Stay Thirsty--Ablaze, by Forest Camp), a 5-2 shot in this unveiling, was part of a five-way skirmish for the lead down the backstretch through an opening quarter in :21.52. Three wide into the stretch, she took control after a half in :45.80 and splashed home a 1 3/4-length winner. Natasha Fatale (City Place) was second. Flossie, who sold for $70,000 as a KEENOV weanling, RNA’d for $75,000 at Keeneland September before selling to David McCarthy for $225,000 at last year’s OBS April sale after working a furlong in :10 flat. Her unraced dam Ablaze, a half-sister to GSP Mister Triester (Old Trieste), produced a colt by Upstart this year. Ablaze is out of a half-sister to graded stakes winner Cashel Castle (Silver Ghost) and Canadian champion juvenile Riker (Include). Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $34,500.
